This song is written from the perspective of a young, expecting mother after her first ultrasound. Nervous, the mother talks through her anxieties, speaking to her unborn child.
This song was excised from a larger, abandoned song cycle. It has been re-written to fit this stand-alone context better. Please refer to the lyrics in the score, as they differ from the recording.
Finally, it should be noted that the character of the mother choses to have this child. In no way should it be implied that she is forced, coerced, or pressured into having this child. The characters right to choose is of the upmost importance to the performance.
